The Internet of Things brings an incredible amount of new possibilities – but for some of them the legal framework is lacking. The ‘Center of Democracy and Technology’, a non-profit organization for consumer rights on the Internet, states its recommendations in a commentary to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. It is the only Commission that can initiate mandatory recalls in the US and therefore plays an important role. For example, the CPSC should think about expanding the term “hazardization”, the process in which a device that is actually safe becomes unsafe when connected to the Internet.
