In its current report, the European Court of Auditors warns that existing legislation on food safety in the European Union is still not sufficiently implemented, and because of the large amount of legislation authorities are not able to keep up with the necessary inspections. Another problem, according to the court, is that it is not always clear what action should be taken in the event of infringements.
